Automated Scan2x deployment on Canon iR Adv (Gen 3, DX) multifunctional devices
Scan2x can work inside Canon’s imageRUNNER Adv Gen3 and DX series of multifunctional copier-printer-scanner devices. To do this, an application needs to be installed on the device, and to do this we use the Scan2x Deployment Tool.
The deployment tool uses the web-based administration interface of the device remotely by automating Chrome on the PC on which the tool is run.
One can access the Deployment Tool through the following link - https://connect.avantech.com.mt/updates/DeploymentInstallerSetup.msi
Kindly run the 'meapinstaller.exe' from the directory path " C:\Program Files (x86)\Avantech Limited\Scan2x MEAP Deployment Tool " as an administrator.
For more information about the Scan2x MEAP App, kindly see the respective tab.
MFP Automated Installation
The Scan2x files required for the imageRUNNER device installation are pushed to the device in two possible ways:
(1) over the internet direct from Canon’s Delivery System (CDS) cloud service, or
(2) pushed directly over the local network by the Scan2x deployment tool.
The cloud delivery option is the simplest and preferred method and requires the iR machine to have access through the local firewall to the internet. The second option is used when internet access is not possible or not allowed.
The tool also caters for installations connecting to Scan2xOnline cloud facilities and to on-premise local Scan2x server setups.
ØThe introduction window will guide you to whether you would like to choose a “Cloud” or “Intranet” Installation. The Cloud Installation will allow you to setup to the Scan2x Online Tenant. A tenant key example would be cwc12345678 or s2xo12345678. The Intranet Installation will allow you to insert the Scan2x Web Server URL. (example ‘http://172.16.1.180:9009’).
ØIn the device window, click on the button “Canon Image Runner Advance / DX” to continue with the Image Runner Installation.
DEPLOYMENT TO MULTIFUNCTIONAL imageRUNNER devices:
For MFP deployments, specify whether the devices have access to the internet through your organization firewall.
Connected to the Internet? Is your MFP connecting to the world wide web? If yes, Click on the “Yes” button and the installation done through the CDS System built in inside the MFP.
Follow the steps in the screen below, one at a time.
ØFirstly, for imageRUNNER DX series devices, please ensure that the default administrator password is changed to something personalized before going any further. This is due to a default feature within these devices that does not allow any settings changes to take place until the default password is changed.
This is the installation form. The Installation form will allow you to do the following.
•Insert the MFP IP Addresses by clicking on the informational button at Step 1.
oYou can insert 1 or more devices. The devices must be inserted in an IP-Address format. (Example – 172.16.1.10)
oDepending on whether Cloud or Intranet was chosen in the previous steps:
Cloud - The Tenant name and Authentication Key is inserted in Step 2 as shown in the left photo below (E.g.,cwc12345678 or s2xo12345678).
Intranet - The Scan2x Web Server URL is inserted in Step 2 as shown in the right photo below (E.g., ‘http://172.16.1.180:9009’)
oThe Time zone of the MFP can be detected and chosen by firstly clicking on “Detect Time zone” and then select the ideal time zone name from the dropdown next to the same button. It is essential that the time zone of each MFD is set correctly prior to deployment of Scan2x.
•Click on “Next – Start Installation” to start the installation and setup process for the MFP.
This is the MFP Installation Monitor. The Installation Monitor will allow you to do the following.
Click on “Start Installation” to start the installation and setup process for the MFP. The deployment tool will register progress and activity in the activity box and will also automate your Chrome browser in order to configure each imageRUNNER listed in the IP Address list entered earlier.
If you need to copy the logs generated by the application click on “Copy Log” to clipboard the data and save.
You can click on “Back – Machine Setup” to return and do additional changes to resume with the setup.
Once the installation is concluded, click on “Finish”.
Please DO NOT minimize, close or interfere in any way with the browser as it opens and closes, as this may interrupt the process and stop the deployment.
The system may prompt you to insert your username and password, depending if any authentication settings are put in place.
ØOnce the setup is concluded and the “Finish” button is clicked. The closing remarks are shown. You can choose by clicking on the “Close Application” to close the application or clicking on “Back to Introduction” to go back to Step 1 of this documentation.
Local Intranet deployment to MFDs
If your devices do NOT have internet access, then each device you deploy Scan2x to will not be able to use Canon’s deployment system.
As a result, it will be necessary for the serial number of each device to be entered into the Deployment Tool for manual licensing.
ØChoose the device type from the menu below.
ØConnected to the Internet? No. If you’re not connected to the internet click on “No” to continue the next step of the installation, where the licensing is done within the Canon License Management System, and the installation is done through the use of the license files and jar files.
ØHow many devices are you installing? If you are installing on more then 10 devices. Firstly, create a csv of one column containing all the serial numbers of the devices. For a sample of the CSV click on “Serial Number License Sample”.
The serial number of each MFP can be found by clicking on right hand side of the touchscreen next to sleep button. The button is on side and is labelled as “123”. A prompt message box is shown on the MFP and the serial number is located at the bottom right of the message box.
ØIf the “Manual Input” button is clicked, this means that you are to insert less than 10 serial numbers (deploying to ten machines or less). Once this is clicked the below window is shown.
ØOnce the “Register Licenses” is clicked an internet browser is shown which sometimes will minimize or be displayed on the screen. It is important not to interrupt this process as it might cause errors during the license files generation. One the registration process is done; the setup will redirect to the below window.
